CT ELDS

Andover Elementary School Early Learning Center follows the Early Learning and Development Standards (ELDS).  These standards include the following developmental domains:

  • Cognition

  • Social & Emotional Development

  • Physical Development & Health

  • Language & Literacy

  • Creative Arts

  • Mathematics

  • Science

  • Social Studies

Themes have been developed based on the ELDS.  They are integrated into different curricular activities throughout the school day.  We support play-based and language-rich classrooms.  Our center staff differentiates instruction to help children progress through the standards with the goal of having the children ready to enter kindergarten.

Assessment Details

Children are assessed using the Connecticut Documentation & Observation for Teaching System (CT DOTS).  Information regarding child development will be shared with families three times per school year.  Staff also use a variety of other assessment methods to gain an understanding of each child’s growth – early screening instruments, teacher observations, family reports, and performance tasks. These approaches are used by teachers to assess children’s growth in all developmental domains and to assist with planning and implementing learning activities based on children’s interests and abilities.

Assessment System

Andover Elementary School utilizes the CT DOTS Online system for recording & reporting on performance in the classroom. This system at the teacher's discretion may directly email parents of students online portals where they may contribute Family Evidence, or view Student Profile Reports. Guides on how to utilize these features are available for parents at request of the teacher, on the CT DOTS Online Dashboard.
